Deseeders are machines used to separate the grapes from the stalks. They generally operate by oscillation or vibration, using inertia to detach the grapes whilst preserving their integrity. Modern destemmer can be configured to suit different grape varieties and often include sorting systems to remove unwanted plant matter. Some models incorporate modular conveyors, draining hoppers and pre-destemming drying mechanisms. These machines are designed to improve the efficiency and quality of the grape harvest.

Pendulum-action shelling machine – Delta Oscillys (Bucher Vaslin)

The ‘Delta Oscillys' is a pendulum-action destemmer whose destemming process is based on the high-amplitude oscillation of one or two cages, the aim being to detach the grapes from the stems by inertia. This system is designed to ensure de-stemmingThe pendulum-action de-stemming system operates without a beater, a de-stemming shaft or a rotating cage.
The pendulum motion applied to the cage(s) sets the bunches in motion towards the upstream end and applies a gradually increasing force as they progress through the cage towards the downstream end.The grapes are separated from the stalks by inertia ( a principle that applies a force to the grapes greater than the force holding the grape to its stalk) and pass through the perforations in the cage(s).An efficient, high-quality process that preserves the integrity of the grapes. The grapes and stalks are then collected on a roller sorter to remove all plant matter from the harvest. Adjustments can be made according to the grape variety by varying the oscillation speed and the diameter of the perforations in the cage(s).

Linear de-seeding machine (Socma)

This linear destemmer uses a destemming technique different from that of destemmers. The conveyor belt is modular and can be configured as a sorting table prior to the destemming chamber. It is a compact modular unit with a scalable structure. A versatile piece of equipment, it can perform several functions along the conveyor line: receiving and draining the grape harvest, drying, sorting, destemming, removing stalks, lifting and transferring the grape harvest. Here are the main components:
  • The conveyor belt Its
design allows the grapes to be conveyed on inclines of up to 30°.
Connectors ensure the conveyor can be configured as either concave or convex.
  • The hopper This is
the starting point of the conveyor belt.
It drains the grapes and is available in several versions depending on requirements (inclined, wide and extended).
  • The conveyor It
can be configured as a sorting area prior to destemming and/or as an elevator, particularly for the gravity-fed removal of destemmed grapes.

  • The de-husking unit The
de-husking module consists of a stainless steel housing positioned directly above the conveyor belt. It contains four rotating elements, each fitted with curved plastic spring rods.
The drive system comprises motors mounted on the housing and, where applicable, in the sorting area, controlled by variable-speed drives. The kernels are discharged beneath the conveyor belt.
The stalks are discharged as they continue along the belt, falling at the foot of the machine. An extension belt can be fitted to facilitate discharge.
The belt returns to the reception area via the underside of the machine.

Vertical vibrating seed separator (Socma)

The ‘Le Cube' vibrating destemmer comprises a combination of pendulum destemming and a Viniclean sorting system. This equipment is designed to gently destem the harvest by separating the berries from the stalks in a way that best preserves the integrity of the grapes.

Threshing fingers

It consists of destemming fingers which form a vertical channel through which the bunches pass, driven by discs fitted with flexible fingers. The grapes are shaken loose and fall, together with the stalks, onto a vibrating hopper with an adjustable screen.
Plant debris is removed by the Viniclean's conveyor belt.
The berries are collected and directed towards the crusher or the grape pump.

Vibrating destemmer and mechanical sorter – Selectiv' Process Winery (Pellenc)

The ‘Selectiv' Process Winery' equipment comprises a destemming system coupled with a roller sorting table. The hopper can be fed with grapes directly from a tipper lorry, a receiving hopper, a conveyor belt or from grape crates.

The hopper is fed directly with grapes from a skip, a receiving hopper, a conveyor belt or grape crates.
The slatted conveyor belt feeds the grapes into the high-frequency linear destemmer (see diagram below).

The stalks and berries fall onto the roller sorting table.
The solid, serrated rollers on the sorting table convey the grapes away and reorient the stalks so that they do not fall with the grapes.
The hollow rollers with prongs allow the berries to pass through whilst removing the stalks and petioles.
The stalks are removed by a screw conveyor.

Rotary separator and cleaner (Larquey)

Trieur egreneur rotatif
Rotary shaker-separator
The rotary sorting and destemming machine is a piece of equipment designed exclusively for use with mechanically harvested grapes. Fitted with its brush roll, it acts as a destemmer. Without the brush roll, it separates the juice and loose berries from the rest of the harvest. In this case, it can be used on its own (in which case all waste is discarded) or in combination with a destemmer that processes the rejected bunches and parts of bunches, or it can be followed by a manual sorting table. This machine, which can only be used with mechanically harvested grapes, can be operated with or without beaters.
  • When fitted with its beaters, it functions as a destemmer.
  • Without beaters, it functions as a sorter: it separates the juice and loose berries from the rest of the harvest. It can then be used on its own (in which case all waste is discarded) or in combination with a destemmer that processes the rejected bunches and parts of bunches, or it can be followed by a manual sorting table.
